The idea was conceived in 2002 when the Arch Bishop of Jos, Most Rev. Dr. Ignatius A. Kaigama summoned all the principals of the catholic secondary schools in Jos for a meeting. In his address, he borrowed the wisdom fo the SMA missionary under Bishop Redington for their foresight in establishing the school. He then charged the principals to make some sacrifice to have a branch in other areas. The principal of St. Joseph College Vom was given the task of building a branch of the college in Shendam.
